Committee is not a solution, Farm laws should be withdrawn: AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab unit said on Tuesday that it supports farmers’ demand to repeal the three new farm laws. The party said that setting up a committee in this matter by the Supreme Court is not a ‘permanent solution’ to the issue.

AAP MP Bhagwant Mann said the party does not want any ‘compromise’ with the farmers’ self-respect. The only way to end this impasse is to withdraw the ‘black’ laws. In a statement, Mann claimed that most of the members of the committee set up by the Supreme Court are representatives of the BJP-led central government. He said, “We doubt that this committee will be able to understand the real problems of the farmers and find a permanent solution to those problems.”

AAP MP said The Supreme Court earlier prohibited the enforcement of controversial agricultural laws till further orders and formed a four-member committee to end the deadlock between agitating farmers’ organizations over the law on the boundaries of the Center and Delhi. The four-member committee set up by the Supreme Court includes BKU President Bhupinder Singh Mann, Shetkari Sangathan (Maharashtra) President Anil Ghanwat, International Food Policy Research Institute South Asia Director Pramod Kumar Joshi and agricultural economist Ashok Gulati.
