Mehbooba Mufti's custody extended for 3 months under PSA, ending on August 5

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday extended the custody of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti for 3 months under the Public Security Act (PSA). On August 5 last year, hundreds of people, including the Mufti, were taken into preventive custody before abolishing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and dividing the state into 2 union territories. The current order of custody of the former CM was coming to an end on 5 August this year.
According to the order issued by the Home Department, the Mufti will remain in custody for the next 3 months in her official residence Fairview Bungalow. This bungalow has been declared a sub-jail. "The law enforcing agencies have recommended extension of detention further and after considering it, it was deemed necessary," the order said. Most mainstream leaders including Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah has been released from custody.
